MyWelshpool publishes 30,000th story!

This week, MyWelshpool has published its 30,000th story!

It’s an astonishing landmark for your leading hyperlocal news site which has entered its 17th year of operation, serving the community of Welshpool and the surrounding area.

When we launched all the way back on August 13, 2010, little did we know that all of these years later we would be firmly positioned as one of the UK’s most respected and established hyperlocal news services.

It means that, on average, a little under 2,000 pieces of news or information are published every single year, ensuring that our readership is one of the best informed of any community anywhere in the UK.

Our energy for keeping going is you, our unwavering readership, and earlier this summer we recorded one of our biggest ever months with around 248,000 pages of news read by around 39,000 visitors – astonishing numbers to show we are as relevant today as we were when we started all those years ago.

The local media landscape is becoming ever more challenging, so it is important to acknowledge all of our loyal supporters whose advertising ensures that we can continue to provide your local news for free, whilst providing their businesses with unrivalled levels of exposure.

We are always keeping an eye on opportunities, and currently we are eyeing a potential expansion into a neighbouring area. Let’s see how our market research for demand goes in the coming months.

Our social media has been a huge driver to our stories, with almost 17,000 Facebook followers, 5,000 on X and our recently-launched TikTok channel opening us up to a brand-new younger audience with almost 1,000 already on board.

"We are one of the longest serving independent online news outlets in the UK, and while the bigger media houses often forget their local roots in search of cheap social media revenue clicks, we are firmly focused on making sure your news is local and relevant to your community," said co-founder, David Williams.

"We are proud to serve you and work on your behalf to ensure that our local elected officials are held to account, and over the years our stories have made a real difference.

"We are also proud to have helped to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds by publicising local fund raising events and awesome charity challenges undertaken by our readers."

So, our message to you is to keep the news coming! We are in this together and our success is your success.

Thank-you for your support, we don’t take it lightly and will continue to do our best to keep you informed.
