In the latest of our Business in Focus series, we caught up with young Welshpool entrepreneur Sean Squibb who is the man behind Transformer Fitness Gym.
The business continues to evolve to remain at the leading edge of the fitness industry, and is celebrating 10 years next week with an open invitation weekend to all.
So, who is Sean Squibb?
I am the founder of Transformer Fitness Gym. I was born and raised in Welshpool, so I’m a local lad with a lifelong passion for health, fitness, and sports.
From a young age, I was heavily involved in competitive sprinting, which fueled my drive to pursue a career in the fitness industry. After qualifying as a personal trainer, I knew I wanted to create something bigger - something that would inspire and support others on their fitness journeys.
In November 2015, at just 20 years old, I opened Transformer Fitness Gym. Now, with 13 years of personal training experience, my mission remains the same: to help people become the best version of themselves - not just physically, but mentally too.
For me, Transformer Fitness has never been just about the gym - it’s about building a strong, supportive community where people can push their limits, grow in confidence, and achieve more than they ever thought possible. And this is just the beginning!
How long has the business been running and what has made it such a success?
Transformer Fitness has been running for 10 years this year, and in that time, we’ve built more than just a gym - we’ve built a community.
Our key selling point? It’s the atmosphere. This isn’t just a place to train; it’s a place to push limits, break barriers, and achieve results alongside like-minded people who support and motivate each other.
With a huge variety of top-tier equipment, expert coaching, and a culture that thrives on hard work and progression, Transformer Fitness is more than a gym - it’s a movement. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned athlete, you’ll find the energy, accountability, and tools you need to transform into who you want to be.
How has the local industry evolved since you started, and what have you done to stay ahead?
Since we started, the fitness industry - especially at the local level - has evolved massively. There’s been a huge shift towards more specialised training, community-driven gyms, and a demand for not just a place to work out, but a space that inspires and pushes people to be their best. More people are looking for expert coaching, accountability, and an atmosphere that keeps them coming back.
At Transformer Fitness, we’ve stayed ahead by constantly evolving and reinvesting, we’ve expanded our space, upgraded our equipment, and introduced new training methods to keep things fresh and challenging. But more importantly, we’ve built a culture that stands out - one that’s built on real support, high energy, and a relentless commitment to helping our members achieve results.
We’re not just keeping up with the industry; we’re setting the standard.
Are you willing to say what sort of investment has gone into the gym?
For this re-launch alone, we have invested in the region of £50,000.
What can people expect from the new transformation?
More space, more equipment, classes and upgrades.
Tell us about the plans for the relaunch weekend on April 5 & 6?
We’re inviting the local community of Welshpool to join us for an action-packed weekend full of fitness, fun, food, and prizes!
We’re bringing the energy with free CrossFit taster classes and workshops, giving everyone a chance to experience our upgraded facilities and coaching. You’ll also get to check out our brand-new equipment and expanded main gym space, designed to take your workouts to the next level.
There will be competitions with great prizes up for grabs. And of course, we’ve got free food to keep you fuelled while you soak in the atmosphere.
It’s the perfect chance to see the transformation, meet the community, and experience what makes Transformer Fitness different. Don’t miss it!
What would you say to someone thinking about joining/visiting the gym, but perhaps hasn't done before?
If you’re thinking about joining Transformer Fitness but haven’t taken that first step yet, just know that you won’t regret it. Walking into a new gym can feel intimidating, but from the moment you step through our doors, you’ll feel the energy, the support, and the community that makes this place different.
We offer free no-sweat introductions to come in, have a chat about your goals and how we can help.
Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, our space is designed to push limits, build confidence, and help you achieve real results. No egos, no judgment - just a team that’s here to help you every step of the way.
Take that first step. Come in, check it out, and see for yourself what Transformer Fitness is all about. We can’t wait to welcome you!
How important is the gym in this hectic world we all live in?
Going to the gym helps both physical and mental health by reducing stress, anxiety, and depression while boosting mood and confidence. Regular exercise alongside balanced nutrition improves strength, fitness and body composition while also preventing chronic diseases. Plus, being part of a gym community provides social support, making fitness great for overall well-being.
