Welshpool Livestock Sales report on an auction at Buttington Cross on Monday.

OTMS (45)

An entry of 45 Over Thirty Month Old Cattle sold to an average of 146.46 ppkg for the older cows, 158.48 ppkg for the heifers and 151.87 ppkg for the steers under 48 months. A Limousin cow weighing 854 kg made a top price of £1485.96 from CV and EM Lewis, Buttington New Hall, and therefore receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. Another Limousin cow weighing 699 kg made £1209.27 from RE and L Jones, Farchwell. An under 72 months old Blonde D’Aquitaine cow from FJ Owens and Son, Llettygynfach weighing 674 kg made £1132.32. A Limousin heifer under 48 months from G and H Jerman, Tynyrwtra weighing 596 kg made £1013.20, a Limousin steer under 48 months from JM Bowen, The Garth weighing 676 kg made £1068.08.

FAT CATTLE (7)

A good entry of 7 fat cattle sold to an average of 249.23 ppkg. G Bound & Son, Cefn Bach presented two fat British Blue heifers achieving 266 ppkg for 502 kg and also for 552 kg. A Limousin steer from the same vendor realised 264 ppkg for 576 kg. DC Jones and Son, Ty Hir sold a Limousin steer weighing 742 kg for 208 ppkg. G Bound and Son receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price per kilo animal sold on the day. Weekly sale of Fat cattle every Monday at approximately 12.30pm. An entry of 78 Prime Hoggets, sold to an overall average of 153.46 ppkg.

Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (11) to 150 ppkg from DA Davies, Penybanc. Average of 131.41 ppkg.

Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (29) to 163 ppkg from RF Wilde and Sons, White Abbey. Average of 160.23 ppkg. 

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (1) to 146.46 ppkg from RF Wilde and Sons, White Abbey.

Over Weights (Over 52kg) (5) to 155 ppkg from TE Madeley, Cwmgringlyn. Average of 154.88 ppkg.

PRIME LAMBS (5645)

An entry of 5645 Prime lambs, sold to an overall average of 210.73 ppkg.

Super Lights (17.5kg to 25kg) (32) to 213 ppkg from DH Owen, Crugyn Dimai. Average of 212.77 ppkg.

Lights (25.5kg to 32kg) (614) to 211 ppkg from D H Owen, Crygyn Dimai. Others to 210 ppkg from CP and VM Andrew and Son, Bronfedw. Average of 196.79 ppkg.

Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (1903) to 233 ppkg from DD and MJ Evans, Pantywynthrew. Others to 223 ppkg from Messrs BE and BE Langford, Llettymeibion. Average of 205 ppkg.

Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (2894) to 233 ppkg from CD Jones, Bedol. Others to 231 ppkg from DP Casewell, Tanrhiw. Average of 215.91 ppkg. 

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (197) to 227 ppkg from FW Humphreys and Sons, Brook House and DE and KB Owen and Son, Rhallt Isaf. Others to 227 ppkg from T Williams and Sons, Ty Mawr. Average of 216.06 ppkg.

Over Weights (Over 52kg) (11) to 214 ppkg from T Williams and Sons, Ty Mawr. Others to 203 ppkg from RE and EJ Rowlands, Tycam. Average of 213.25 ppkg.

CULL EWE (2832)

An entry of 2832 met with an increased trade achieving an average of £46 for the ewes and £57.60 for the rams. Ewes topped the sale at £97.50 per head from JE Powell, Cil Pentre, others to £90 from GL, JS and A Howells, Shadog Farm. Rams topped at £75 per head from DA and SJ Jones, Dyffryn, others to £70 from MW and J Jones, Rhosllwyn. Weekly sale of cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of prime lambs at approx 12 noon.  

DAIRY COWS
A catalogue entry of 17 Dairy cattle seen an average of £1646.36 for heifers and £1528.33 for cows. A 2010 born Holstein Friesian Heifer, giving 25 litres, topped the sale at £1970. A Pedigree Holstein Friesian Heifer from PA and JM Astley, Cefn Farm, giving 33 litres, made £1950.Two 3rd Calving Pedigree Friesian Cows, both yielding 45 litres, made £1920 and £1640 from JR Wilkinson, Dyffryn Farm.
