A hole in one on Welshpool’s most difficult hole helped 17 handicap Frankie Jones win the Coronation Vase on Saturday.
The youngster’s first ever ace came on the toughest 14th par three on The Golfa and it saw him edge out Huw Evans (22) on the countback with both scoring 38 points in the stableford event. Darren Williams (17) 37 pints was third.
Sunday’s Swindle saw Steve (Dibby) Lloyd (19) in first place with a 66 net for a convincing success. Graham Jones (12) was six back on 72 with Dale Hardy (13) third on 72.
The Seniors played for the PR Ford Trophy with Margaret Bowen (13) winning with 37 points. Derrick Arthur (24) was second on 34, edging out Peter Sharman (24) on the countback.
The Seniors also enjoyed success in a match again near neighbours Lakeside, making home advantage pay and winning the match 4-2.
