Monty League triumph in England

Montgomeryshire’s shooters have been in exceptional form this season, and their English counterparts have found out first hand.

Firstly, a team of 20 shooters, captained by Brian Davies, went to Bodenham, Herefordshire, to take on a North Hereford Airgun League team in the Inter League Cup.

The Montgomeryshire team came away victorious by out shooting their opponents with a total score of 820 to North Hereford's 812. The team claimed nine head-to-head wins, six draws and suffered just five losses with Jane Thomas and Richard Lewis top scoring with 45 each with 16 of the team scoring more than 40.

But it wasn’t a one-off with a Montgomeryshire team of seven, captained by Alan Baker, winning in Broseley in the quarter-final of the West Midland Inter League Knockout against Bridgnorth Airgun League.

The match is usually shot on a home and away basis, however to save on travelling the two legs were shot on the same evening at this neutral venue.

Monty won the home leg 206.5-200.3 with Richard Morgan (35.4) and Martin Pearce (35.2) shooting possibles.

It was repeated in the away leg with Monty winning 209.2-202.1 with possibles for Jane Thomas (35.2) Richard Lewis (35.3) with Morgan (35.5) shooting his second of the match.

Meanwhile, the AE Autoelectrical sponsored Montgomershire Airgun League held their Handicap Trophy competition at the Royal Oak.

On a fantastic night of shooting, just five points separated the top 5 but the end result saw the trophy head to Guilsfield B with a combined score of 154.5. They outshot Llanfair by .9, with Crew Green B (153.5) claiming third. There were 12 possibles scored during the evening, again emphasizing the superb standard of shooting in the league.
