Welshpool to expand up Red Bank

19/07/2017 @ 05:44

A new section of land at the top of Red Bank has gone up for sale with permission apparently already granted for 24 new four-bedroom houses to be built.

The land (pictured) adjoins Brynfa Avenue and is behind the recently constructed Burgess Close which was built at a cost of £5.6 million for 45 properties three years ago.

The field has been put on the market for £850,000 by Harry Ray & Co who said that: “This elevated site commands exceptional views of the surrounding countryside and is accessed directly off Brynfa Avenue.

“This is the only site in Welshpool with detailed Planning Consent and the selling agents are pleased to report there is a good demand for housing in this area.”

We asked Town Clerk, Robert Robinson, if more information was available but he responded: “There’s not much more to add other than the site is on the market because we think the time is right.

“The money from the sale will be re-invested to create more income to meet the Trust objectives.”

The Burgess Lands Trust was set up in 1761 with a permanent endowment to provide income for two objectives. These are the maintenance, building, extending, beautifying and repairing of the Council’s buildings and when this objective has been met then any surplus can be made available for the poor and needy.

There is a special group set up including other local Community Councils which administers the allocation of funds to the poor and needy of the area covered by the Trust.
