Final opening for garden

27/04/2017 @ 07:30

Oak Cottage garden (23 High Street), Welshpool, will be open for the last time this year under the National Gardens Scheme on Sunday April and Monday from 2pm-5pm.

This town centre walled-garden has been revamped over the last two years but still presents gravel paths and stepping stones winding through a wide variety of plants, many unusual.

A Wardian style cabinet, the alpine house and troughs should have a number of alpines and hepaticas in flower. The garden is described in the current edition of Welsh Country.

Entry to the garden is from Bowling Green Lane which runs parallel to the High Street and which offers parking on Sundays.

Homemade cakes and tea/coffee is available and the entrance charge is £3.50 for adults, children free.

In 2016, £2.7 million was raised through the National Gardens Scheme and went to a variety of charities including Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Parkinson’s UK, MS Society and Hospice UK.
