Getting over 54’s back into work

A new initiative to help local people aged 54 and over get back into work has been launched by HRH the Prince of Wales.

The Workways+ Powys project aims to help more than 670 people in Powys gain new skills and help them get back into work over three years. Backed by EU funds, the project will be delivered by Powys County Council and PRIME Cymru.

The project will run for three years and will help over 670 people looking to start their own business; return to work or those hoping to take part in volunteering opportunities to improve their skills and confidence.  It will be open to people across Powys who are aged 54 and older who are not currently registered unemployed or working.

It will offer tailored and individual support with job-seeking and interview skills, help with CV writing, sourcing trial work placements, training or guidance on setting-up in business. Around 50 volunteer mentors will be recruited and trained to provide one-to-one mentoring as part of the project.

The total cost of the project is £695,825, with 50 per cent coming from the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government, £60,000 from PRIME Cymru and the remainder from Powys County Council.

Powys County Council’s Leader, Cllr Rosemary Harris, said: “I am delighted that the council has been able to instigate and fund this important project. A strong economy is vital for the well-being of the county and this work will help residents gain the necessary skills to get back into employment.”
