Artist to hold open day

A Montgomeryshire-based artist who trained at one of the world’s most prestigious art schools, is to offer a rare insight into his work as part of an open day at his studio.

Daniel James Yeomans (pictured), 30, who lives near Montgomery is a portrait and landscape artist working from life.

He trained at the Charles Cecil Studio in Florence, Italy, before returning to Montgomeryshire two years ago.

His work has been shortlisted for national awards and is currently working on a range of commissions and more public projects.

Last year he unveiled what is the only full length portrait of a town crier in the UK after painting Montgomery town crier, Sue Blower. It has since been viewed at the National Assembly for Wales and other locations.

On Saturday, Daniel will open his studio to the public at Yew Tree, Cefn-y-Coed, Llandyssil, near Montgomery.

“I would like to introduce people to the world of traditional portrait, plein-air landscape painting and to show how projects I work on develop and maybe inspire visitors to take up painting themselves as a hobby,” said Daniel.

“They might be just inquisitive or want to know more about the techniques used.”

The studio open day will take place between 9am and 6pm on Saturday. Visitors will also be able to view some of Daniel’s work which will be available for sale on the day.

Dan has recently been painting in Switzerland and in Wales, including a number of works he undertook in the Elan Valley which will be among those on display.
