Lucy writes children's book

A former Welshpool woman has written a children's book about a witch’s purple cat who left his home in Bron y Buckley Woods to live at Powis Castle.

Lucy Sadler, who is the daughter of Welshpool couple Les and Heather Davies, often visited Powis Castle as a child and spent her time exploring the beautiful castle, gardens and parkland.

She later worked there during her gap year which inspired her to write Her book Twilight Cat & The Red Castle.

Lucy currently lives in Oxfordshire with her husband, James, and two-year-old daughter, Willow. Whenever they return to Welshpool to visit family and friends, they visit Powis Castle and it was on one of these recent visits that she decided to base her book on the castle.

The book published by Xlibris is aimed at youngsters under six and tells the tale of Twilight a purple cat. He didn't like being purple. He didn't like the snail stew his witch served him and he didn't like his rickety, well-hidden lodge in the woods.

Twilight wished for salmon and wished to live in the castle he could see from the tallest tree in the woods.

He meets characters at the castle including Alan the resident peacock and the castle ghost but will living in the beautiful castle be everything he thought it would be?  

“I've written many books over the years and always discarded them as something I will do one day,” said Lucy whose husband James is in The Army.

“I wrote this one and thought, why wait? It would just be cast aside like the others, so it was a now or never kind of thing plus it's on my bucket list of things to do. 
“I loved working at Powis Castle in my gap year and always visit when we come home. My Uncle David Evans who volunteered there, always took me when I was young so it's defiantly a place close to my heart.

“I feel there's not enough out there for very young children to encourage them to explore the treasures we have so close to us.”
“It's a story about appreciating what you have whilst highlighting the wonderful town and castle,” added Lucy.
