Welshpool Livestock Sales report on Monday’s sale at Buttington Cross.

OTMS (32)

A good show of Otm cattle this week topping at £1121.84 (148ppkg) for a Simmental Otm cow weighing 758kg from J & B Vaughan, Sychtyn. Also from the same home was a younger cow, 48 – 72 months, weighing in at 721kg making £1009.40 (140ppkg). Roberts & Jones, Parc, presented a 786kg Charolais under 48 months heifer making £1446.24 (184ppkg).

Otm Cows (x11) averaged 108.59ppkg / £720.81.

Cows 48 to 72 months (x3) averaged 131.66ppkg / £812.77.

Heifers under 48 months (x16) averaged 132.58ppkg / £751.41.

Steers under 48 months (x1) averaged 138ppkg / £972.90.

Bulls under 72 months (x1) averaged 117ppkg / £1050.66.

Overall average of 123.14ppkg – MORE CATTLE WANTED TO MEET DEMAND.

An entry of 4370 prime lambs sold to an average of 178.86ppkg.

Lights (119) to 183ppkg from DG & E Williams, Wern. Others to 183ppkg from J LL Morgans & Sons, Tymawr & RE Peate, 6 Nantllachar. Average of 159.82ppkg.

Standards (438) to 199ppkg from DB & EFJ Gethin, Dolyrheol. Others to 194ppkg from CR Pryce, Pentre Farm. Average of 176.23ppkg.

Mediums (1827) to  253ppkg from J A Gwlachmai, 5 Minffordd. Others to 236ppkg from G James & Sons, Penybank. Average of 180.21ppkg

Heavies (890) to 228ppkg from CV & EM Lewis, Buttington New Hall. Others to 213ppkg from G James & Sons, Penybank. Average of  168.36ppkg

An entry of 715 Prime Lambs sold to an average of 267.18ppkg.

Lights (42) to 275ppkg from I Hughes & Sons, Middletown Farm. Others to 262ppkg from D C Jerman, Tygwellt. Average of 246.64ppkg.

Standards (367) to 300ppkg  from J & J Beavan & Sons, Winsbury. Others to 297ppkg from C Tomlinson, Agden Dairy Farm. Average of 270.32ppkg.

Mediums (233) to 308ppkg from J & J Beavan & Sons, Winsbury. Others to 294ppkg from DS & GM Pryce & Sons, Coedmawr. Average of 265.53ppkg.

Heavies (62) to 237ppkg  & 230ppkg from N Oughton, Lymore Farm. Others to 229ppkg from T M Davies, Wynnstay Farm. Average of 209.22ppkg.

Over Weights (11) to 181ppkg from DS Jerman. Gwernau. Average of 177.42ppkg.

The spring lambs show and sale took place at Welshpool on Monday 10th April 2017. Class 4 – best pen of 5 lambs 36.5kg and over sired by a Suffolk Ram.

Class 6 – best pen of 5 lambs 36.5kg and over sired by a Charollais Ram.

1st – lot 171 from N Oughton, Lymore Farm.

2nd  -lot 169 from N Oughton, Lymore Farm.

3rd – lot 170 from N Oughton, Lymore Farm.

Champion pen of lambs (Classes 1 – 6 included) lot 151 from C Tomlinson, Agden Dairy Farm.

Reserve Champion Pen of Lambs (classes 1 – 6 included) lot 1514 from J & J Beavan & Sons, Winsbury.

CULL SHEEP (2068)

A good show of culls this week averaging £52 for ewes and £77 for rams. Topping the ewe section at £127 with one ewe was JR, RM & JP Andrew, Bronheulog. S A Cherry, The Graig, presented two ewes making £110. Rams topped at £132 and £112 from M Owen, Glantre. 3 rams from HG Ellis & Co, Tynywern, made £110.

COUPLES

An entry of 140 ewes with their lambs was met with a good trade for what was on offer. The majority were again full mouth or as found ewes with only a dozen pens of yearlings that again made good money.

Taking the top spot again this week was E W Howells & Son, Oakwood, with a pen of 6 Suffolk x yearlings with twins at foot that made £200. Three 3 and 4 year old Texels with twins at foot from the same home made £197 and a Texel yearling with twins made £190.

DE & KD Langford, Brunant, presented 5 mule yearlings all with twins at foot making £191 and averaged £181.

Ryan Morris, Maestanyglwyden, presented a Texel x yearling with twin Beltex lambs that made £171 and 2 Texel x yearlings with single Beltex x lambs reached £129.

Other singles sold to £121 for 8 Texel x 3 year olds with 8 Texel x lambs from EJ & AJ Roberts, Longlands, and £120 for a full mouth Suffolk x ewe with a single lamb from J Morrison, Meadow Brook Cottage.

Best twins traded between £160 - £200, with others between £120 - £150. Best singles between £100 - £129 with others between £70 - £90.

CADE LAMBS: An entry of 117 cade lambs this week sold to an average of £11 topping at £26.
