Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a sale at Buttington Cross on Monday.

OTMS (22)

A slightly smaller entry of otms this week topping at £1234.20 (165ppkg) for a 748kg Limousin from CV & EM Lewis, Buttington New Hall. DW Davies, Penybank, presented a Limousin cow weighing 710kg making £986.90 (139ppkg).

Cows 48 to 72 months topped at £1087.56 (159ppkg) from NLN Jones, Waun Farm, for a 684kg Limousin. DP Evans, Moel-Y-Garth, presented a 564kg Limousin cow making £941.88 (167ppkg).

Heifers under 48 months peaked at £1276.08 (156ppkg) for a Charolais weighing in at 818kg from BH Evans & Son, Rowton Grange.

Otm Cows (x13) averaged 121.53ppkg / £786.65.

Cows 48 to 72 months (x4) averaged 143.11ppkg / £864.38.

Heifers under 48 months (x4) averaged 142.59ppkg / £910.08.

Overall average of 126.56ppkg – MORE CATTLE WANTED TO MEET DEMAND.

PRIME HOGGETS (3553)

An entry of 3553 prime lambs sold to an average of 172.82ppkg.

Lights (299) to 187ppkg from Price & Price, Cwm Earl. Others to 174ppkg from T Evans, Brynglas. Average of 164.17ppkg.

Standards (385) to 188ppkg from J T Owen & Co, Frochas Farm. Others to 182ppkg from WEG Evans, Llwynycrwth. Average of 166.47ppkg.

Mediums (1205) to  266ppkg from H M Powell & Son, Whitehouse. Others to 244ppkg from S Smith, Pentre Farm Cottage. Average of 175.82ppkg

Heavies (1039) to 219ppkg & 201ppkg from G James & Sons, Penybank. Others to 194ppkg from RR & CA Jenkins, Moydog . Average of  167.13ppkg   

Over Weights (562) to 205ppkg from J C Evans & Co, Belan Newydd. Others to 178ppkg from H & S Watkins, Cammen Uchaf.  Average of 149.40ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (1156)

A reduced entry of culls yesterday met with improved averages of £54.28 for ewes and £62.90 for rams. Topping the section at £144 were a pen of 3 ewes from GL & SE Lloyd, Bryn Hyfryd.  D P Casewell, Tanrhiw, presented two ewes making £135. R D Ashton, Goron, presented a cull ram topping at £120.

STORE LAMBS (226)

An entry of 226 store lambs this week topping at £67.50 from 10 Texel x theave lambs from T A Williams, Haulfryn.Tup lambs topped at £62.50 also from the same home. Mixed and clean lambs topped at £61 for 9 Texel x lambs from SJ & ER Meyrick, The cottage.

Theave Lambs (72) averaged £51.52.

Mixed and clean lambs (54) averaged £39.62.

Wether lambs (12) averaged £38.58.

Tup lambs (77) averaged £44.37.

Mixed and Tup lambs (11) averaged £45.45

Cade Lambs -  An entry of 123 cade lambs this week topped at £22 from M S WiLLIAMS, Penrhos Farm. Average of the day was £10.16.

COUPLES

An entry of 130 ewes with lambs at foot saw a vast majority being full mouth or as found ewes sold to a buoyant trade and a total clearance which peaked at £205 for 3 Texel x 2 and 3 year old ewes with twin texel lambs at foot from DTM Jones, Minffordd, who also sold 2 Texel x 3 year old ewes for £168. Other twins from J O Evans, Parcypwll, sold to £150 for a full mouth Texel x and £138 for a Texel x 3 year old.

Majority of twins traded between £130 and £145 with poorer sorts between £100 and £125.

Best Singles hit £118 for a Texel x yearling from R E Jones, Gelli, with others to £115 from TE & D Jones, Penllan. Other best sorts traded between £100 and £110 with the majority trading between £75 and £90.

Next catalogue sale will be held on Monday 3rd April, Please contact the Mart Office for further information. Approximately 80 ewes with lambs at foot next week, sale to commence at 11.30am

IN-LAMB EWES.   

A special entry of 53 Welsh in-lamb ewes from W D Lewis, Gilfach, Dolfor, went under the hammer due to ill health reaching £74 for a Bunch of 15 Yearlings and 2 year olds in lmab to Welsh tups, further pens sold for £72 and £70 with the run of 53 averaging £70.

COWS & CALVES

Another seasonal entry of Cows and calves met with a solid trade once again. Two excellent outfits from MR Williams, Wern Holding, sold to a top of £2520 for a Limousin x 1st calver with a Limousin bull calf. A Limousin x 1st calver with a Limousin heifer calf made £2320. Two Limousin x 1st calvers one with a bull calf and one with a heifer sold for £1640 and £1500 from R I Owen & Co, Cwnffynnon, Llanbrynmair. A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows: £2000 + 2 lots, £1500 - £1800 2 lots, £1000 - £1250 3 lots, < £1000 1 lot.
